My reaction is likely the same as yours. Google+ really? Just consider this. Facebook, starting from inception in February 2004 up till January 2010, the site reached 400 million users. Holy SH*#! Well, it still took a whole 6 years to gain 400 million users, when compared to Google+, which gained 400 million users in under a year and a half (Aug 2010-Dec 2011). You don’t have to be a financial analyst to see that Google+ is gaining steam in the social market very quickly. Below you’ll see that Google+ topped 50 million hits in Decembers marking their highest month of traffic to date.

However, whats even more impressive is Facebook still has 800 million active users according to Mashable. Theses users are active though; thats an important difference. I’m fairly confident that Google+ users aren’t half as active as Facebook users considering that the majority of my family and friends have an account, but can’t remember the last time they used it. I’m sure that could change quickly — I mean look at Twitter being now the 10th most visited site reported by the renown Alexa rankings.
Regardless, Facebook still dominates the social market. Comscore reported, “In October (2010), Facebook reached more than half of the world’s global audience (55 percent) and accounted for approximately three in every four minutes spent on social networking sites and one in every seven minutes spent online around the world.” Thats enough for advertisers and me to say Facebook holds the crown when it comes to social engagement…for now.
Will you ever be a Google+’er or will you be a loyal Facebook enthusiast? Neither, perhaps just a Tweeter?
